Paul Nordin passed away in March, 2021, at 92 years old. After receiving his BA, MA, and PhD in nuclear physics from UC-Berkeley, he joined TRW where he worked in Dr. Don Jortner’s Vulnerability & Hardness Lab. He worked on various missile systems and technology programs. After 22 years at TRW, he subsequently worked for Grumman Aerospace, Boeing and the Aerospace Corporation, finally retiring in 2014. Paul is best known for having written the first unclassified treatment of Hardness and Survivability Requirements in the book “Space Mission Analysis and Design (SMAD)”. TRW assisted him in updating and adding to that subject matter in the 1999 3rd Edition of the SMAD book. Paul and his wife Muriel attended many TRA functions and Hardness & Survivability gatherings over the years. He will be missed by his many friends in industry.
