NG Receives Program Excellence Award from Aviation Week for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope

NG has received yet another Program Excellence
Award from Aviation Week for leading the industry team building the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA’s next great observatory.

Unlike the Hubble, which is primarily an optical telescope, the JWST will observe in the infrared bands, and will need to orbit in at a point that’s about 1 million miles from earth (about 5000 times as far as Hubble).   This orbit around the second Lagrange point enables the sunshield to protect the sensitive structure, mirrors, and instruments from the negative effects of the sun and earth albedo.
